It started at a workbench, with my dad.

01 — Origin

A simple beginning.

Freund Fabrications has a very simple beginning. It started with a son asking his dad to help him put a cutting board together.

What was meant to be a single weekend project turned into something we both got quietly hooked on. The wood. The shape. The way a piece you made yourself sits differently in your kitchen than one you bought.

After that first board, we started making them for friends. Then for friends-of-friends. Then strangers. Eventually we figured we should give the whole thing a name and a proper place to send people.

That's FreundFab. A small workshop in Canada, run by me, leaning on the help and the lessons of the man who taught me to measure twice. We make things to last: kitchen pieces, gaming gear, printed bits, for people who'd rather buy once than buy three times.

02 — How we make things

Three things we don't compromise on.

Everything we make passes through the same three filters. If a piece can't be all three, we don't ship it.

Made in Canada

Wood is sourced locally where the species allows. The workshop is in Canada and so is everything that comes out of it. Shipping is from here, too: no warehouse hops, no overseas detours.

Made to last

Real materials, square joinery, finishes that hold up to use. If something we made gets damaged, we'd rather you bring it back for repair than throw it away. We design for that.

Made for the table

Whether it's a kitchen table or a gaming table, the things we make are made for community. Cooking, hosting, rolling dice, sharing meals. Pieces that get used, not displayed.

03 — How a piece gets made

From rough lumber to your table.

Every wood piece travels the same road. The steps don't change but the time spent on each one does, depending on the tier.

Design

Sketches and dimensions, agreed before any wood is cut. For made-to-order, this is where engraving art lands too.

Mill

Rough lumber comes in long and crooked. Joining, planing, and squaring is most of the work, and most of why a piece sits flat for years.

Glue-up

Strips arranged for grain and colour, then clamped overnight. The geometry of a board lives or dies here.

Sand & finish

Up through the grits, then mineral oil and beeswax. The cream goes on warm, the wood drinks it in.

Engrave

Fibre laser, set up for the piece. Names, dates, logos, the date your kid was born; whatever you brought us.

Pack & ship

Wrapped, boxed, shipped from Canada. Care card included so the piece stays the way it left.

04 — Materials

What we use, and where it comes from.

We work mostly in hardwoods. Maple is the standard for kitchen pieces. Tight grain, food-safe, holds up to a knife. Cherry is the warmer alternative, available on most wood lines as a no-charge swap.

For 3D and Forge work, we run PLA and PETG on home-built printers, with felt or leather liners on the premium tabletop pieces. Engraving is done in-house on a fibre laser.

Maple

Sourced from Canadian mills. Standard on all kitchen pieces.
Cherry

Standard alternative, same price as maple. Warmer tone, ages beautifully.
Finish

Food-safe mineral oil + beeswax board cream. No plastics, no varnish, nothing you'd worry about.
Print materials

PLA and PETG for FreundFab 3D & Forge. Felt and leather liners on premium tabletop pieces.

Sustainability

Made-to-order means nothing made for landfill.

We don't run inventory we hope someone buys. Most of what we sell is built after you order it, which means no overproduction, no offcuts going to waste, and no stock sitting on a shelf becoming someone else's problem. Cut-offs from one project become handles, knobs, or test pieces for the next one.
